Vignesh was an intern at Finity before joining us as a graduate in 2018.
He tells us about his experience so far.

When was your internship at Finity?

My summer internship at Finity was from November 2016 to January 2017.

When did you join Finity as a permanent employee?

I joined as an actuarial graduate in February 2018.

Why did you choose to apply for a summer internship at Finity?

I chose Finity because it is a firm that is reputable and known to deliver high-quality work. I had also heard about the firm’s fun and laid-back culture and wanted to experience this for myself. Since I was looking to learn more about being an actuary and wanted have fun while doing so, Finity seemed to be the obvious choice when applying for a summer internship.

What did you gain from your internship at Finity?

Over 10 weeks, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that provided me with a great overview of the work actuaries do in the insurance and analytics areas. By working with industry leaders and experts, I was given guidance in understanding the purpose and context of my work.

During this time, there were also plenty of training sessions that facilitated the development of my technical capabilities in SAS and R, allowing me to apply these skills directly to the projects I worked on.

What were the highlights of your summer internship at Finity

Finity definitely sets itself apart from the others with its amazing culture and the variety of work available. Not only was there always new and interesting work around the corner, everyone was also very friendly, supportive and easy to talk to. By working at Finity, I really felt like I had become part of a family. As part of the fun and relaxed culture, there were also frequent social events, such as pub lunches, Christmas parties and exam dares during the 10 weeks I was there.

What tips would you give interns?

Always give everything your best shot and if you are still unsure of something, don't be afraid to ask for assistance. There are always people around who are more than happy to help out. Also try and make the most out of your experience. My 10 weeks seemed to go by quite fast, so get involved in as many activities as you can, like joining one of Finity's lunchtime sports teams.

All the work I was doing had purpose and value, which made me feel like an important part of Finity.
