In Australia, the Appointed Actuary is a statutory role for general insurance companies regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). Finity has extensive experience in this role and currently acts as Appointed Actuary for more than 30 general insurance companies.

Each year the Appointed Actuary prepares an Insurance Liability Valuation Report and a Financial Condition Report, providing independent board-level reviews of the financial affairs of the business.

In New Zealand, the new Appointed Actuary role is similar, and Finity already has two appointments under the new framework in New Zealand.

For valuations, Finity’s considerable experience ensures in-depth analysis of historical experience using approaches appropriate to the class of business. The choice of liability estimation method is also carefully selected for the circumstances. Our advice relating to risk margins is underpinned by rigorous analysis as well as consideration of qualitative factors.
