Community involvement
One of Finity’s core values is ‘Giving back’. We seek to give back to the community in three broad areas.
Environmentally conscious work practices
We offset the carbon emissions of our work-related air and taxi travel, and the electricity in our Sydney and Melbourne offices is sourced from ‘Greenpower’ accredited renewable sources or offset using carbon credits. Our default printer settings are for double-sided printing and we encourage the use of public transport by not providing company cars or car spaces.
Support for charities
The Giving Back Committee encourages our staff to get involved with charities. In 2011 this included sponsoring people in the City 2 Surf (Oncology Childrens Foundation), Movember (for Prostate Cancer and Beyond Blue), the Oxfam Trailwalker 100km and even the New York Marathon (Cure Cancer Australia Foundation). We also organise fundraising social events held in our offices – such as the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea and Red Drinks for the Australian Red Cross– where Finity matches donations made by staff. At our quarterly social events, the major prize in competitions is a donation to the charity selected by the winner.
Contributing to our profession and industries
We give back to the actuarial profession by encouraging staff to get involved in Institute activities, such as presenting at conferences, writing research papers, setting and marking exams, and serving on Institute committees. We also give back to the industries we serve by supporting ANZIIF activities, regularly distributing newsletters and flyers on topical issues and by hosting a number of seminars (niche insurers conference, pricing seminars, and regular forums to support in-house appointed actuaries).
