New data reveals Sydney & Melbourne suburbs most likely to vote ‘yes’ in Same Sex Marriage Survey

New data from Defin’d - Finity’s  data & analytics consulting service has revealed the top ten suburbs in Melbourne and Sydney that are most likely to vote ‘yes’ in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey.

Sydney: Top ten

The top ten suburbs in Sydney most likely to vote yes (allowing for expected variations in response rates) are:

  1. Chippendale
  2. Camperdown
  3. Ultimo
  4. Enmore
  5. Erskineville
  6. Alexandria
  7. Pyrmont
  8. Neutral Bay
  9. Darlinghurst
  10. Sydney

Melbourne: Top ten

The top ten suburbs in Melbourne most likely to vote yes are:

  1. Melbourne University
  2. Melbourne CBD
  3. Southbank
  4. Elwood
  5. St Kilda
  6. West Melbourne
  7. Carlton
  8. Carlton North
  9. East Melbourne
  10. North Melbourne

"Our data highlights an obvious inner city vs outer suburban areas divide, with outer suburbs demonstrating greater representation of more traditional views. This is apparent in both Sydney and Melbourne and we are also see the same trend in other capital cities," said Ashish Ahluwalia, Defin'd Principal.
