Commercial Lines Pricing Seminar 2011

Finity’s inaugural Commercial Lines Pricing Seminar was held on the 4th of May 2011 at Cockle Bay Wharf in Sydney. The event was well attended by analysts, product managers and executive managers from Finity’s client base. All the presentations can now be found in the Seminars section of our publications.
Estelle Pearson kicked off the event discussing the profit performance and outlook in the Commercial Lines market. Steve Lardner, a director of Aon Risk Services Australia, followed by presenting the current state and future outlook of the Commercial Lines market from a broker’s perspective.
Nelson Henwood discussed the challenges of portfolio segmentation for commercial lines insurances. He provided a machine based learning approach, several examples, some cautionary tales on data and some potential applications.
Tim Andrews discussed the recent experience of commercial property insurance arising from natural perils, identification of short and long term cycles and the potential for an industry study for commercial property to follow on from a recent one on the impact of natural perils in home insurance.
Finally, Estelle Pearson and Alice Huang presented on the National Claims and Policy Database. While identifying some of its While identifying some of its limitations, they found a considerable amount of useful analysis that can be undertaken and suggested this is an area that the industry as a whole might wish to address with APRA.
