Finity’s Fifth Birthday

June 8th, 2010

Finity celebrated it’s fifth birthday on the 24th March this year.  All staff received a wooden pepper grinder (given that the traditional 5th anniversary is symbolised by a wooden gift) and the Melbourne and Sydney offices closed down for a half day to celebrate.

The Melbourne team spent a lazy afternoon at lawn bowls in the heart of the city. It was a sunny autumn day, which proved the perfect backdrop for the team to kickback, relax and chat. Eventually some bowls were played and it was no surprise to see the two Melbourne Principals (David McNab and Gillian Harrex) excel at this mature-age sport.  The team ended the day with a good feed at the Courthouse Hotel.

The Sydney team ventured to a tennis centre in Chatswood where the competition on the tennis courts was tough and the heat was stifling. Players were grouped according to skill level and the first hour was spent with some much needed coaching from the tennis professionals.  Round robins of doubles then commenced with some controversial substitutions causing upsets leading into the finals.  There was plenty of banter over the net and a few disputed calls but in the end skill triumphed with William Lee and Scott Collings taking first prize in the so-called “advanced” group, Ian Burningham and Ammar Khan winning the “intermediate” tournament and Stephen Lee and Alice Huang triumphing in the “beginners” group.  We continued playing tennis well into the evening after the official tournament and BBQ dinner had ended.

We took the opportunity to also celebrate one of our values – Giving Back, with the winning teams nominating the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal to receive a $500 donation on Finity’s behalf. Overall a great day was had by all!
